In recent years, the Wynwood area has exploded in color and notable art, attracting thousands of artists and art aficionados to the area located just northwest of Miami’s downtown area. This is particularly true when Art Basel comes to town, a time when street artists descend upon the area to turn Wynwood into a giant canvas.
It’s these artists that are being featured in a new WLRN documentary called “Streets of Wynwood”. Shot during two different Art Basel festivals, the filmmakers used drones to capture aerial views of the artists at work as they used various tools to complete their vivid works of public art, sometimes without the necessary permission. Besides the shots of the artists, the documentary also features interviews with the artists like American artist Shepard Fairey as well as art advocates. Local and international artists are also featured.
“Streets of Wynwood” is only an hour long and is being screened tomorrow beginning at 7pm at the Perez Art Museum Miami. It is free with the purchase of a museum ticket. If you can’t make it to the screening, the documentary will also be broadcast at 9pm on November 17th on WLRN channel 17.
